Echternach, the oldest town in Luxembourg, was founded in 698 by St Willibrord, an English monk from Ripon, Northumbria (in present-day North Yorkshire, England). It lies near the border with Germany.

Musée de l’Abbaye

L’abbaye d’Echternach, supprimée en 1796, a été fondée en 698 par saint Willibrord. Le palais abbatial actuellement en place date de 1727. Une partie du sous-sol voûté abrite depuis 1987 le Musée de l’Abbaye.
